Dinner Meeting May 18, 2008, Featuring Gary Stanley

Cap will hold a dinner meeting on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 1284 Strongtown Rd., Southbury, CT. The meeting will begin with cocktails at 5:00 p.m., there will be short business meeting at 5:30, and dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. Gary Stanley's program Fine Tuning Your Photography will follow the meal.

Gary has said of this program: “One thing that I have mentioned many times since the start of the digital revolution is: ‘Whether you shoot with an old Pentax K1000, a 4x5 view camera, or the latest Digital SLR, you still need to exercise good technique. You still have to focus, you still need correct exposure, and you still need great light and good composition. After all, it’s still photography.’ My message to you is this: ‘It’s time to get back to the subject of photography, to concentrate on doing what we love to do. I don’t care what equipment or tools you use to do it, as long as you just do it!’

With that said, we look at the really important side of our photography, the work that goes into Fine Tuning Your Photography. This is a ‘non-denominational’ approach to good photography, putting aside our personal preferences of equipment and tools of the trade, to work on the more artistic and technical details that go into creating great photographs.”

Sturbridge Village Field Trip June 22, 2008

Led by Art Yost

A field trip is being planned to Sturbridge Village for Saturday, June 21, 2008, with a rain date of June 22nd. Kick off summer with a return to rural New England circa 1790-1840. Along with regular village activities there will be demonstrations of early games and many gardens will be in full bloom. We might even have opportunities to explore surrounding towns.

Caveat: Sturbrudge has a strict no-tripods policy. "Photography in the museum is pemitted for personal use only-no tripods." However if you enjoy photographing people including paid "interpreters", this is a great place to try out your portrait skills. More details to follow. Contact Art yost at mailto:arty43@comcast.net or 203 931-9943.
